An Introduction
Hi! My name is Dave Maynard. Thank you for visiting my blog. I wanted to start a blog when I retired. At 66 years of age, and after walking with Jesus as my Savior for over 41 years, I feel I have learned a few things about life in general and the Christian life in particular. Whether any of this will impact your life…well, we’ll see.
My blogs will cover things relating to Christianity and some cultural issues. All will be viewed thru the lens of scripture. We’ll discuss ideas like:
- how to respond to ISIS
- when helping the poor hurts them
- what are your spiritual gifts and how do you use them
- are you planning your life or do you just let it happen to you
- are you preparing for life after you retire
- the mis-use of statistics, like the one that says the divorce rate is 50%
- should Christians support homosexuality and/or same-sex marriage
- supposed contradictions and hard sayings in the Bible
This is my senior high school picture taken long ago, with the pimples photo-shopped out. I’m using this because let’s face it, I was better looking then than now.
I am by no means an expert in these things, but let’s be honest….I am good looking (cough, cough), smart (cough, cough), humble, modest, etc., etc. (coughing spell kicks into high gear at this point). By sharing ideas and viewpoints, we can all learn new things that may impact our lives and, hopefully, other peoples also. I only ask that we be civil, polite and respectful in our conversations. Even if we disagree, it can be done courteously and with respect. I do reserve the right to delete any post that I deem as offensive or as a personal attack on someone.
I’ll write a new blog about every 2 weeks. By signing up for my blog, you’ll be able to comment and get notifications of when new blogs come out.
Of course I plan to sell your name and get gobs of money for it. You’ll be left with sleezy, fly-by-night companies constantly pestering you for money (said with tongue firmly planted in cheek). Don’t you just love sarcasm. I think it’s one of my spiritual gifts.
Since it’s my desire to leave you with a smile on your face and a little extra ‘spring’ in your step, here are 5 jokes, one for every workday of the week:
Proverbs 17:22....A cheerful heart is good medicine....
I don't get no respect. When I was born, the doctor slapped my mother––––Rodney Dangerfield
People are giving birth underwater now. They say its less traumatic for the baby because it's in water. But certainly more traumatic for the other people in the pool––––Elayne Boosler
I just got out of the hospital. I was in a speed-reading accident. I hit a bookmark––––Steven Wright
I have a new book coming out. It's one of those self help books called "How to get along with everybody". I wrote it with this other jerk––––Steve Martin
I broke up with my girlfriend. She moved in with another guy, and I draw the line at that––––Garry Shandling
Once again, thanks for reading my blog. Let the fun begin.
