Foundations 2 – Who are we? Student notes
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”…Genesis 1:1
The Creation….
Genesis 1 & 2….we are created by God in His own____________ (Genesis 1:26 & 27). This clearly distinguishes us from the rest of creation. We can also have a personal relationship with our Creator (Genesis 3:8 & 9). All of God’s creation, up to this point, was ____________ (Genesis 1:31)
The Fall of humanity….
Genesis 3….
Adam & Eve were __________ people and this event was accepted as real by the Bible in Romans 5:12-19….1Cor 15:21 & 22….1Tim2:12 & 13
This is the 1st mention of a being called Satan. Satan is a fallen _________ who convinced many other angels (now called __________) to rebel with him against God.
Revelation 12:7-9….Isaiah 14:12-17…Ezekiel 28:12-17
Satan transformed human honor, desire & dignity (all God-given qualities) into dishonor, greed & pride. Satan is powerful but no where near as powerful as _________.
While Satan & his demons can masquerade as ____________ of light (2Cor11:14), they will eventually bow down to Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:10,11).
From this point on, human offspring inherited a less than perfect heart. Sin is anything less than ________________….hence, we are all ___________ (Romans 3:23 & 6:23). But God loved us too much to leave us in this fallen state forever (Genesis 3:22-24). Adam & Eve weren’t kicked out of the Garden of Eden by an angry God but by a loving God. If they had eaten of the tree of life, they would have lived _______________ in a fallen state.
God promised us a redeemer….one who will reconnect us to God….Genesis 3:15….Micah 5:2….Matthew 1:21 & 2:6. This redeemer will do right what Adam/Eve did wrong….Romans 5:17-19….1Cor 15:21,22
God’s redeemer will restore our spiritual life. Since Adam & Eve were co-regents over the created universe, the creation fell with them (Genesis 3:17-19). Creation awaits God’s final redemption (Romans 8:18-23….Revelation 21:1-7) where it will be perfected. Then, He will have completely undone the effects of the Fall.
